CB raids ‘Vanik’ over SI recruitment scam

Bhubaneswar: A Crime Branch (CB) team Thursday raided ‘Vanik’, a coaching institution near CRP Square of the City, in connection with its ongoing investigation into the police sub-inspector (SI) recruitment scam.
Sources said CB sleuths questioned several employees of the institution and seized a number of documents during the raid.
CB DSP Narendra Behera, who led the raid, said action would be taken against those found involved in the scam.
“Some of those arrested earlier were students of ‘Vanik’. We’re verifying five-year records from the institute and cross-checking them with the information we have.
Once verification is complete, further steps will be taken,” Behera said.
Meanwhile, Subrat Chhatoi, a BJD leader and ‘Vanik’ owner, denied the allegations.
“Our institute has been providing education for the past 12 years to help students prepare for government jobs.
‘Vanik’ has no involvement in any kind of malpractice,” he said. So far, 114 candidates and five middlemen have been arrested in connection with the scam.
