'Kantara: Chapter 1' worldwide box office collection: Rishab Shetty-starrer has a HISTORIC opening week

Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1

Kantara: Chapter 1, prequel to the 2022 all-time blockbuster Kantara, has completed its extended first week at the box office. Due to a Thursday release (October 2), the fantasy epic had an eight-day opening week and has taken a smashing opening across the globe. With audience reviews being on the positive side, the worldwide gross is close to Rs 477 crore.

In the core market Karnataka, the film will surpass its predecessor as the top-grossing film in the state. While it missed out on the opening day record to KGF 2, Kantara: Chapter 1 roared back to set a new weekend and first week record in the state. The film grossed approximately Rs 76 crore in four days and has collected close to Rs 126 crore in its extended first week in the state. It is on track to becoming the first-ever Rs 200 crore grosser in Karnataka.

In Tamil Nadu, the film staved off competition from Idli Kadai and has emerged the Dussehra winner with strong word-of-mouth powering the film after a slow start. The extended first week collections amount to Rs 36 crore and a superstrong second weekend is in the offing with major screens giving prime time shows to it instead of the Dhanush-starrer.

The trend is similar in Kerala where the film has taken a superb start, grossing Rs 33 crore in its eight days so far. It took a fab opening and has maintained the tempo with a long run looking possible. It is on track to go past the Rs 50 crore mark in the state. In AP/TG, despite high value of rights, the film has surged past Rs 80 crore gross and has taken a big start at the ticket windows.

The Hindi version is also doing phenomenal business and the extended opening week gross has touched Rs 127 crore and seems to have the legs to go past Rs 200 crore in North India belts. The exact overseas numbers are yet to be obtained but as per estimates, the gross is around Rs 75 crore mark at the moment.
