Western Railway Continues Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 With Focus On Clean Surroundings & Food Hygiene
Western Railway is observing Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from 1st to 15th October, 2025 to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental awareness across stations, offices, workshops, and trains. Building on the launch and initial activities, the campaign progressed with focused initiatives on Swachh Parisar and Swacch Aahar during Days 8th and 9th. According to press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, on the eighth day, 8th October, 2025, intensive cleanliness/fumigation drives were conducted in Railway offices, colonies, retiring/waiting rooms, rest houses, and dormitories to improve cleanliness. More than 70 awareness drives on segregation of dry and wet waste was organized for passengers and residents of railway colonies. Public participation drive was held for cleaning up garbage in Railway colonies in which more than 500 people participated. For beautification of the premises, plantation and landscaping activities were held at about 50 stations/colonies.
On the ninth day, the focus was on Swachh Aahar, with intensive inspections carried out across various railway premises to ensure food hygiene, vendor cleanliness and proper waste disposal practices. Around 100 food stalls, food carts, cloud kitchens and storage areas were inspected by officers and Chief Health Inspector to ensure cleanliness and adherence to hygienic food handling practices. To promote health and hygiene among catering staff, medical and hygiene check-ups were conducted more than 200 canteen bearers, cooks and food vendors. During the activity awareness was also raised on personal hygiene and safe food handling practices. Surprise checks were carried out, including running rooms, rest houses and canteens to assess utensil cleaning procedures, garbage disposal systems, overall hygiene and the medical fitness of the staff. During these drives food samples were collected from stalls and catering units for quality check to ensure food safety and quality compliance.
As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada initiative, Western Railway conducted extensive cleanliness, hygiene and awareness drives across stations, colonies and catering units. These efforts focused on improving sanitation, promoting safe food practices and encouraging active public participation.
