Cybercrime awareness drive launched in state

The Himachal Police have launched a month-long campaign to make people aware of frequent cybercrimes. Under the campaign, people are being informed about cybercrimes as well as tricks used by cyber fraudsters to dupe people of their money.

The police are sharing tips about how to not fall into the trap of cyber criminals as well as preventive measures to be taken to keep oneself safe from cyber criminals and cyber attacks.

As per the police, at present, the top five trending cybercrimes in the country are phishing, identity theft, online fraud, hacking and ransomware. The police are advising people to be aware of suspicious links and emails and not to click them, as doing so can lead to identity theft and financial losses. People are also being advised to keep passwords of their social media handles secure and keep changing them frequently.

The police are advising people to enable two-factor verification and always keep updating apps and systems. They have advised people to immediately report any instance of cybercrime by dialling the toll-free cybercrime helpline number 1930 to ensure quick redress of their complaints.

Cybercrime is one of the major challenges being faced by people in the state. Over 600 calls of complaints regarding cybercrime are being reported in the state on a daily basis, showing the gravity of the situation.
