Electricity smart meter is not mandatory for Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, strict instructions to the employees
The requirement for smart meters has been removed under the Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has encouraged employees to install solar panels. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide free electricity to poor and middle-class families, a goal the government is committed to.
Electricity smart meters: A review of the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was held in the Collectorate auditorium. The District Magistrate stated that public awareness of the scheme should be increased to ensure maximum benefits. He urged every officer to have complete knowledge of the scheme’s eligibility and procedures and to encourage people in rural areas to adopt solar energy through publicity.
The District Magistrate directed the Executive Engineer to train meter readers and make village heads aware of the scheme. Smart meters are not mandatory to avail the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The District Magistrate directed employees of the Rural Development, Health, and other departments to set an example by installing solar panels in their homes.
During the meeting, the District Magistrate inquired about the problems being faced by registered vendors at the ground level and directed the Power Corporation and bankers to promptly resolve the problems faced by vendors and consumers. He urged all departments to coordinate with each other and effectively implement the scheme.
DM flags off awareness vehicle
The District Magistrate, along with the Superintendent of Police, flagged off promotional vehicles for the “Prime Minister Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme” from the Collectorate premises. For 15 days, the public in the district will be made aware of the scheme’s benefits, eligibility, and application process.
Under the scheme, eligible consumers will receive up to five units of free electricity per kilowatt per day by installing solar panels on their rooftops.
This will not only reduce electricity bills but also generate revenue by selling excess electricity to the grid. CDO Anand Kumar Shukla, CMO Dr. Sanjay Kumar Shaiwal, DPRO Sarvesh Pandey, EO Akbarpur Bina Singh, LDM Kamlesh Kumar, PO NEDA, and others were present.
