Did Rani Mukherjee reprimand Rajdeep Sardesai at India Today conclave? Clipped video shared falsely

A video of Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee seemingly rebuking journalist Rajdeep Sardesai is viral on social media. In the viral clip, Mukherjee can be seen sternly asking Sardesai to sit down. The users claim that her reaction was to a sexist question asked by Sardesai.

Alt News found that the viral clip had been taken from the India Today Conclave held on October 3, 2025. At this particular panel, Rani Mukherjee was joined by IPS officer Meeran Chadha Borwankar.

 

It can be seen in the video above that at the 31:30-minute mark, Borwankar appreciated Mukherjee’s performance in her film ‘Mardaani’. She says, “There was one scene in Mardaani where she is standing in a police station, and she is five feet nothing… Huge staff, very tall and broad policemen are standing. She, in a very businesslike manner, asks them to handle a particular issue. And they look at her… The way the director portrayed it — the way those tall, masculine men belonging to the police department, maybe it was crime branch, look at her and accept her leadership and do what she has told them — that one scene was so powerful which conveyed that it’s not the gender that matters, it’s the proficieency in the job and maybe the rank which matters.”

Sardesai then requests Mukherjee to enact the scene from the movie. He jokingly offers to play the gunda in the scene and asks her to scold him. At 32:36, Mukherjee can be seen rebuking him, which is seen in the viral clip.

Thus, a video of Mukherjee enacting a scene from her movie ‘Mardaani’ at the India Today Conclave is being shared out of context with the misleading claim that it was her reaction to a sexist question by Rajdeep Sardesai.
