Haryana IPS officer’s death: Rohtak SP replaced; development in line with family’s demands

Four days after the family sought “action" over IPS officer Y Puran Kumar’s death by suicide at his Sector 11 residence, the Haryana Government today replaced Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarniya with Surinder Singh Bhoria.

The order issued today said that Bijarniya’s posting orders would be issued separately.

The family, since the recovery of the IPS officer’s suicide note, had been demanding that the DGP and the SP, Rohtak, be sent on leave. However, during a meeting between senior-most government officials and the deceased officer’s family, the latter were conveyed that sending the two officers on leave was not on the table and that their demands would be looked into after they agreed to proceed with the post-mortem and cremation.

With the process for the post-mortem beginning this morning, the government, in line with its commitment, has transferred Bijarniya.

At the PGIMER, Chandigarh, where the post-mortem has to be conducted, the police are awaiting the arrival of a family member to begin the procedure.
