A powerful terrorist attack occurred on the police training school in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday night. The attackers first detonated a suicide bomb and then entered the school with heavy weapons. They then opened heavy fire on police and security forces.

In response, police officers attempted to stop the attack and killed several terrorists. Superintendent of Police Hafiz Muhammad Adnan stated that all terrorists had been eliminated. Approximately 200 police personnel and trainees were present at the school at the time of the attack and were evacuated safely.

At least eleven police personnel were killed and 13 injured in the attack. The injured were immediately hospitalised. The district headquarters trauma center in Dera Ismail Khan provided treatment to all the injured police personnel.

Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack as cowardice by the terrorists and paid tribute to the police personnel, saying they bravely thwarted the terrorists’ dangerous designs.

Army action and other incidents

Prior to the attack, the Pakistan Army had killed eleven terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Daraban area of ​​Dera Ismail Khan. Major Sibtain Haider was killed in the operation. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari praised the bravery of Major Sibtain and other security forces.

New initiatives against terrorism

The Pakistan Army has reiterated its renewed resolve to eradicate terrorism. ISPR Director Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen due to political and criminal networks. He said that successive governments have failed to implement all 14 points of the National Action Plan, and the current government has relaunched it under the name “Azam-e-Istehmaq.”

Violence in Pakistan increased by 46% in the third quarter of 2025. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan alone accounted for the majority of the country’s total violence and deaths. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the hardest hit, accounting for 71% of all violence and deaths.
