Uber Subscription Model: Online cab service provider Uber has launched a subscription-based model for all its car, auto-rickshaw, and motorcycle drivers (driver-partners). The company launched this model two weeks ago and has now implemented it nationwide.

Tough competition from Rapido

This move puts Uber in line with other major aggregators, including Rapido and Ola. The company continues to face stiff competition from Rapido, which is rapidly expanding its business. Rapido has been successful in attracting drivers through its subscription model. Uber has confirmed its adoption of the subscription model. In a statement, the company said, “In line with the changing market conditions, we are now working on a subscription model across all platforms, including cars, autos, and bikes.”

Under the commission model, Uber charged drivers 15-20 percent of the fare, which drivers said reduced their earnings.

What will be the benefit to the driver?

Under the subscription model, drivers pay only the subscription fee, and the remaining revenue goes to the driver. One Uber driver explained that under the subscription model, drivers receive almost the entire amount. Currently, Uber has introduced daily and monthly subscription plans for driver-partners.
