In what appears to be a case of mass suicide, five members of a family in Sikar of Jaipur district in Rajasthan were found dead on Saturday morning.

According to media reports, a woman and four of her children—three sons and a daughter—died by suicide after consuming poison at Anirudh Residency on Palwas Road in Sikar.

The woman and her children allegedly took the extreme step over a dispute with her husband. A packet containing some poisonous substance was reportedly recovered from the scene.

The neighbours grew suspicious after the door of the house remained unopened for a long time. The neighbours tried to call the people inside, but received no response. They then broke open the door and found the people inside dead.

Soon the police were informed about the incident.

"Decomposed bodies of Kiran (35), three sons Sumit (18), Ayush (4) and Avnish (3), and daughter Sneha (13) were found in the flat," Sikar Sadar police station SHO Indraj Marodia has been quoted as saying by PTI.

According to the SHO, it suspected that the family consumed poison and died by suicide two to three days ago.

"...We received a complaint from Anirudh Residency of a flat being locked for many days and foul smell coming from inside...We checked and found five dead bodies of family members," news agency ANI quoted Sikar Deputy SP Suresh Sharma as saying. "The forensic team is called to collect samples; further enquiry is underway," he added.
