Previously, IndiGo had announced plans to launch daily flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou from October 26, 2025. Now, Delhi has been designated as a second hub, providing easy access to two important and rapidly growing cities in Asia.

IndiGo stated that it operated flights between India and China before the COVID-19 pandemic and still has the necessary infrastructure and local partners. This means new flights can be launched quickly and easily.

It’s worth noting that there have been no direct flights between India and China since 2020, even though China remains India’s largest trading partner. This move follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to China. This was Modi’s first visit to China in seven years, during which he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. During the visit, Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that India and China are development partners, not competitors, and the two countries discussed strengthening trade ties.

The Prime Minister expressed India’s commitment to improving bilateral ties but also expressed concern over the trade deficit, which has now reached approximately $99.2 billion. He also reiterated the need to maintain peace and stability along the disputed India-China border, where military tensions have been escalating following a clash in 2020.
