3 youths from state killed in Russian war zone, 10 stuck: Jangra

BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana Ram Chander Jangra has stated that three youths from the state had been killed in the Russia-Ukraine war, while 10 are still stuck there.

“Efforts are being made by the Centre to bring back our youths. I have spoken to the Foreign Secretary. I have been told that a dedicated team led by an IFS officer has been assigned the responsibility to do the needful," he said while talking to ‘The Tribune’ today.

Asked about the delay in the process of bringing them back, the MP said the youths were lured by agents to join the army there for hefty packages. “Our youths have signed formidable legal agreements to join the army on the assurance of getting hefty annual packages of up to Rs 50 lakh per month. Hence, our officials are facing legal issues in dealing with such cases," he revealed.

Meanwhile, the family of Sandeep, a Dalit youth of Taimurpur village, met Jangra today and requested for help.

Sandeep (29), who had gone to Russia on a study visa, had called up his family from Ukraine last week and told his parents that he had been inducted into the Russian army and pushed to the war zone without proper training. His mother said he had been deceived into joining the army.

“My son was told that he would have to work as a cook/helper and would get a salary of Rs 2.5 lakh per month, in addition to other perks. However, he was pushed into the war zone and his life is at risk. He is unable to return as they have taken away his mobile phone, passport and other documents. I urge the government to bring him back," said Saroj, who has written to the PM and other government functionaries.

“We are poor people. Our only hope is the government," says Bakshi Ram, Sandeep’s father.
