Odisha Women’s Commission team heads to Durgapur to help MBBS gangrape survivor; alleges no support from WB Commission

A team of Odisha State Women's Commission will soon visit Durgapur in West Bengal to investigate and extend all possible assistance to the Odia medical student who was allegedly gang-raped near a private college in Paschim Bardhaman district recently, informed Chairperson of the Commission, Sobhana Mohanty, on Sunday.
Terming the incident as “extremely barbaric”, Mohanty informed that every effort is being made to coordinate with
the survivor’s family. She further said that the Odisha State Women's Commission is closely monitoring the case.
“The survivor’s family is in touch with us. In my personal capacity, I am doing everything possible to ensure a proper response. There is no one above the law; those responsible will certainly be punished,” she said.
Shockingly, Mohanty also stated that her Commission’s attempts to contact the West Bengal Women’s Commission had remained unsuccessful.
District Administration Support
Under the leadership of Balasore ADM, a team has also been dispatched to Durgapur to assess the incident firsthand. The team will coordinate with local authorities and ensure that all possible support, including medical, legal, and logistical assistance, reaches the survivor and her family.
