The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on consecutive days for the Diwali festivities, including Dhanteras and Balipratipada, as per the exchanges’ official holiday list.

Stock Market Holidays

Dhanteras is on Saturday, October 18, 2025. As the day is on the weekend, markets will remain closed on October 18 (Saturday) and October 19 (Sunday). Regular trading will resume on Monday, October 20.

The markets will again be closed on October 21 (Tuesday) for Diwali Laxmi Pujan. On the same day, the exchanges will conduct a special Muhurat trading session, a one-hour symbolic trading event held annually to mark the Hindu New Year.

Muhurat Trading Time

According to circulars issued by NSE and BSE, the Muhurat trading session 2025 will take place from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with a pre-opening session scheduled from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm.

Trading during this auspicious hour is believed to bring prosperity and good fortune as it coincides with the beginning of Vikram Samvat 2082, the Hindu New Year.

Meanwhile, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has also announced holidays on October 21 and October 22 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Balipratipada, respectively. The commodity exchange will, however, open for the evening session on October 22 and will also conduct Muhurat trading on October 21, with timings to be announced later.
