Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet and Rakesh Kumar designated as SVEEP Icons of Patna District

On the recommendation of the District Administration, Patna, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Bihar has appointed noted folk singer Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet and social worker Rakesh Kumar as SVEEP Icons for Patna district for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections, 2025.

Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet has been named as the SVEEP Icon, while Rakesh Kumar has been designated as the PWD Icon to encourage voter participation, especially among persons with disabilities.

Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet, a renowned folk singer of Bihar, has performed on various national and international platforms including Mauritius, Fiji and Nepal, spreading the rich cultural heritage of Bihar. She has also served as the Brand Ambassador for Patna Municipal Corporation’s Swachhata Awareness Campaign, playing a key role in connecting citizens with the Swachh Bharat initiative. During the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, she effectively contributed as the SVEEP Icon of Patna District by motivating voters across schools, colleges and public spaces to participate in the electoral process.

Her contributions have been recognized with several awards such as Times Women Extraordinaire, Women Leadership Award 2023, Dainik Bhaskar’s Bihar Gaurav Samman, Prabhat Khabar’s Aparajita Samman, Dainik Jagran INext Legend of Bihar Award 2024, and Patna Women’s College Sahas Samman 2024.

Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Kurji Kothia, Digha, has been appointed as the PWD SVEEP Icon for his dedicated efforts towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Overcoming his own physical challenges, he has made remarkable contributions in the fields of education, social service, and legal awareness. He has been recognized and felicitated by various organizations for his outstanding community service.

District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate, Patna, Dr. Tyagarajan S.M., stated that an intensive voter awareness campaign is being conducted across Patna district under the SVEEP programme. Nearly 20 departments are working together to motivate citizens to cast their votes, with a target to achieve around 66% voter turnout in the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the participation of the SVEEP Icons will further strengthen voter awareness initiatives and urged every individual to take part in the electoral process and encourage others to exercise their right to vote for a stronger democracy.
