BJP slams Sonia, Priyanka over silence on poll promises

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today criticised Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra for maintaining silence on the unfulfilled guarantees made by the Congress ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh.

State BJP president Rajeev Bindal said Priyanka Gandhi, who had promised that one lakh jobs would be provided to youth in the very first Cabinet meeting after the formation of the Congress government, owes an apology to the people of the state. He added that even after three years in power, the promise remains unfulfilled, along with the assurance of providing Rs 1,500 monthly assistance to women.

“Three years have passed, yet when all Congress leaders gathered today, each of them chose to remain silent on the failed guarantees. The Congress misled the voters of Himachal by making hollow promises, knowing well that they would be difficult to fulfil,” said Bindal. He further alleged that the Congress-led state government had failed to deliver on its 10 key guarantees, including the pledge to provide 300 units of free electricity.

Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur also targeted the Congress leadership over the unfulfilled promises. “As always, the Chief Minister and Congress leaders are trying to mislead the public. Instead of expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre for extending generous financial assistance to deal with natural disasters, Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders have accused the Central Government of discriminating against Himachal, a completely false claim,” said Thakur.

He further objected to the political event held on the Ridge, stating, “The Chief Minister and other Congress leaders misused the Ridge by organising a political rally under the garb of a government function. The Ridge has its sanctity, and except for the PM, no one is permitted to hold a political rally there.”
