Chamba hosts orthopaedic conference, showcases cutting-edge technology

The HIMORTHOCON-2025, the annual conference of the Himachal Pradesh Chapter of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (HPIOA) concluded recently, wrapping up three days of rich academic exchange, live demonstrations and collaborative learning that brought together some of the finest minds in orthopaedic surgery from across India and abroad.

Organised by the Department of Orthopaedics, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College (Pt JLNGMC), Chamba, under the aegis of the Mandi Orthopaedic Surgeons Society, the conference featured high-level academic discussions and presentations on trauma management, arthroplasty, spine surgery and complex bone reconstruction.

More than 120 delegates participated in the event, including Dr Raj Bahadur, a pioneer in spine surgery and one of India’s most respected orthopaedic leaders, who inspired attendees with his visionary address on the future of orthopaedic care.

Dr Bahadur emphasised the growing importance of robotics and minimally invasive surgical techniques, stating that “these innovations will define the next era of orthopaedics, enabling greater precision, safety and faster recovery for patients.”

The most anticipated segment was a live robotic surgery demonstration by Dr Ritesh Soni, who showcased how robotic precision enhances accuracy, minimises blood loss, reduces infection risks and accelerates recovery.

The final day featured sessions on soft tissue repair, dual mobility total hip replacement, fixation of humerus fractures and engaging research presentations by postgraduate scholars from Tanda and Shimla.
