Cong puppet of NC, alliance never in favour of people: LoP

Srinagar, Oct 13: Terming the Congress a “puppet” of the National Conference (NC), Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma today said that the NC-Congress alliance has never been in favour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters here, Sharma said history was “witness” to the fact that the Abdullah family’s “kitchen cabinet” has always made decisions for the Congress, which now functions at the “mercy” of Omar Abdullah.

“History is a witness that the NC has always taken decisions on behalf of the Congress. Despite having MLAs, the Abdullah family decides for them. Even after a core committee meeting, the Congress could not take a stand,” he said.
Sharma said the current situation reminded people of 1975 when Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was made the Chief Minister after being released from jail, despite not being an MLA at the time.
“Even today, the Congress cannot get a seat. Until yesterday, they were being misled with assurances of getting one. The NC has shown them their place. Their decisions are taken in the kitchen cabinet of the Abdullah family,” he said.
Calling the NC-Congress alliance “impure,” Sharma alleged that it has “never served the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Congress has always been a puppet of the NC. It has always been pushed aside by the NC. Even today, the Congress is pleading for a seat. India’s grand old party has its decisions made in the Abdullahs’ kitchen cabinet,” he said.
“In 1975, when the Congress was in power, Abdullah was made Chief Minister. How can they expect things to be different now?” he asked.
He said Congress should merge with the NC as it is “surviving” at the “mercy” of Omar Abdullah.
“Earlier there were other accords, and now it’s Omar and Rahul-accord. Congress cannot decide anything on its own in J&K,” Sharma said.
On the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Sharma said that after a meeting with party MLAs yesterday, the BJP had finalised its strategy.
“We have chalked out a road map, and we will make every effort to ensure that the BJP wins all three seats,” he said.
Reacting to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s recent remarks, Sharma said, “I am astonished that the PDP, which has been rejected by the people, is raising issues related to Taliban and Afghanistan. She should instead speak about Bijbehara. She has no mandate.”
