Awareness camps held to curb stubble burning

In line with the directions of Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh and under the leadership of District Programme Officer-cum-Cluster Officer Jagrup Singh, awareness camps were organised in villages Jania and Utal to educate the public on sustainable stubble management practices.

The team, comprising Surjit Singh (Media and Documentation Assistant) and Yash Pal (Childline Supervisor), conducted the camps to discourage stubble burning. Public announcements were made at the village Gurdwaras with the support of local Sarpanches and Panchayat members to ensure wider outreach.

During the campaign, the team interacted directly with farmers and villagers, highlighting the severe environmental and health impacts of burning paddy stubble. They pointed out that stubble burning harms natural ecosystems, reduces soil fertility, destroys beneficial insects, and poses serious respiratory and other health risks due to the smoke produced.

Farmers were urged to adopt eco-friendly stubble management methods and contribute to a cleaner and healthier Punjab. The team emphasized that community participation and awareness are essential to eliminate the harmful practice.

Officials stated that the goal for the current Kharif season is to achieve zero stubble burning cases in the district. They added that this target can only be achieved through the collective efforts of all stakeholders, particularly the farming community.

Those present at the camps included Surjit Singh, Yash Pal, village Sarpanches, Lambardars, and local residents, who pledged their support for the campaign and committed to promoting stubble-free farming in their villages.
