SLBS medical college to organise ‘Iris 2025’
Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, Nerchowk, Mandi, will host its annual fest “Iris 2025” from October 14 to 16. The event is being organised by trainee doctors of the college with great enthusiasm and is expected to bring together medical students from six government medical colleges across Himachal Pradesh.
The announcement was made today during a press conference by Dr Rajesh Kumar Bhawani, officiating Principal of the college. He said the fest aims to showcase student talent through cultural, sports and literary events, while also promoting social responsibility.
Prizes worth Rs 2,00,000 will be awarded to winners in different competitions. In a generous gesture, the organising team has decided to donate all proceeds from registrations and sponsorships to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. As part of its commitment to social causes, the college will also host a blood donation camp during the fest. A special “Marathon for Tobacco-Free Youth” will be organised to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco among young people.
The fest will feature a wide range of sports competitions including cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, badminton, table tennis and chess. Athletic events like 100m, 200m and 400m sprints, along with marathon and gym contests such as push-ups, pull-ups, bench press and arm wrestling, will also be held.
Cultural events will include solo and duet singing, dance performances, drama, skits, fashion walks, stand-up comedy, mimicry, rap battles and a battle of bands. The popular Mr and Miss Iris contest will also be part of the fest.
On the literary front, students can participate in debate, declamation, extempore, poetry competitions and a medical quiz. A treasure hunt, along with art exhibition and fun games like tambola, musical chairs, UNO, dart games and rangoli making, will also be organised.
The college administration has invited all students and supporters to take part in making Iris a successful and memorable event.
The Principal was accompanied by Additional Director Sanjeev Sharma, Dr Ramesh Guleria, Dr Durgesh Thakur, Dr Meena Bhardwaj, Dr Pradeep Kashyap and lecturer Rakesh Yadav.
