When is Diwali, 20th or 21st October?
In 2025, the Kartik Amavasya date will begin on the afternoon of October 20th and end on the evening of October 21st. Therefore, many people are confused about the date of Diwali celebrations: whether it will be October 20th or 21st. Actually, Diwali will be celebrated on Monday, October 20th. Because the auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja falls during the evening Pradosh period, the festival of lights will be celebrated on October 20th.
Schools will remain closed for 12 days in Rajasthan
The Rajasthan government has declared Diwali holidays. The Education Department has clarified that all government and private schools will remain completely closed from October 13th to 24th. No academic activities will take place during this period. Director of Secondary Education, Sitaram Jat, issued a revised order stating that the holidays will now be from October 13th to 24th, instead of October 16th to 27th. October 12th being Sunday, schools will remain closed for a total of 12 days in the state.
Schools closed in Bihar until the 10th
Apart from Diwali, the festival of Chhath Puja is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fanfare in Bihar. Therefore, the state government has declared school holidays from October 20th to 29th. These holidays include both Diwali and Chhath Puja. This means that all schools and colleges in Bihar will remain closed for 10 days.
Schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed
Uttar Pradesh has a three-day holiday from Diwali to Bhai Dooj. According to the Uttar Pradesh holiday list, October 20, 22, and 23 have been declared as festival holidays for Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj, respectively. Since October 19 is a Sunday, students will be able to enjoy four days of Diwali vacation.
School Holidays in Delhi
Schools in Delhi will be closed for five days. October 19th is Sunday, October 20th is Naraka Chaturdashi, October 22nd is Govardhan Puja, October 23rd is Bhai Dooj, and October 28th is Chhath Puja.
Karnataka will have 10 holidays.
In Karnataka, schools are already closed for 10 days. However, this is not due to Diwali, but rather due to the caste survey. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced holidays for government and aided schools from October 8th to October 18th to complete the state’s caste survey.
School Holidays in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, schools will be closed on October 18th and 19th due to the weekend. Additionally, there is a Diwali holiday on October 20th. This means schools may be closed for three days. However, no official announcement has been made by the state government regarding school holidays.
School Holidays in October
The month of October began with holidays for Mahanavami, Dussehra, and Gandhi Jayanti. Schools will remain closed for several festivals, including Dhanteras, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath Puja. Holidays include Dhanteras on October 18th, Sunday, October 19th, Narak Chaturdashi, Diwali/Lakshmi Puja on October 20th, Govardhan Puja on October 22nd, Bhai Dooj on October 23rd, and Chhath Puja on October 27th and 28th. However, school holidays across the state will be determined based on different customs. Therefore, students and parents are advised to visit the school or the relevant department’s website to confirm the holidays.
