Bihar assembly election: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday unveiled its first list of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. It is the first party in the NDA alliance to announce its candidates, following the coalition’s agreement on seat-sharing. Under the seat-sharing deal, both BJP and JDU will contest 101 seats each. With 71 candidates already announced, BJP still has to declare candidates for 30 more assembly constituencies. Notably, the party has fielded Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, contesting from Tarapur and Lakhisarai, respectively.
NDA finalizes seat-sharing for Bihar Elections
Earlier on Sunday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Under the deal:
- BJP and JDU will contest 101 seats each
- LJP (Ram Vilas) will contest 29 seats
- Rashtriya Lok Morcha and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest 6 seats each
The NDA coalition includes BJP, JDU, LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM (Secular), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
The Bihar Assembly elections for all 243 constituencies are scheduled for November 6 and 11, with vote counting on November 14.
Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance)—comprising RJD, Congress, Left parties, and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) has yet to finalize its seat-sharing. The alliance partners are still working to agree on the number of seats and candidate selection.
