SGPC digital task force to check AI content

Days after consulting artificial intelligence (AI) experts and Sikh scholars to curb the misuse of technology in distorting Sikh religious symbols and places, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to constitute a digital task force.

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the decision was taken at an executive meeting on Monday.

Referring to the issue of AI-generated anti-Sikh content, Dhami said the SGPC had approved a policy framework to tackle such cases. “Anyone creating or sharing videos that disrespect Gurbani, Sikh history, religious symbols, or gurdwaras will face strict legal action. The SGPC will engage cybercrime and Internet law experts for the purpose,” he added.

He said a “digital task force” would also be constituted to counter such activities. It would have representatives from the SGPC Internet Department, IT Wing, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Khalsa College (Patiala), Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (Ludhiana), and Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Engineering College (Fatehgarh Sahib).
