ESIC college welcomes 1st batch of MBBS students
A significant milestone was achieved on Tuesday as the ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, commenced its first academic session by organising a foundation course for its inaugural batch of MBBS students.
This moment marks the beginning of medical education under the aegis of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, and the fulfilment of the vision to establish the first government medical college in the city.
Following the recent approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to initiate an MBBS programme, the foundation course for the new batch commenced on Tuesday.
The chief guest, Dr Bhairavi Deshmukh, Medical Commissioner, ESIC Headquarters, New Delhi, congratulated the students on their achievement and delivered an inspiring address on the role of physicians in society. The event was attended by faculty members, students and parents, marking a proud and memorable moment in the institution’s journey.
The session began with a welcome address by Dean Dr Inder Pawar, who congratulated the students and encouraged them to pursue their education with commitment, empathy and professionalism. Dr Aparajita Sophia D’souza, Medical Superintendent, spoke on the code of conduct and emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity and ethical values in the making of a good doctor.
The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and pride as the students embarked on their journey into the noble profession of medicine, symbolising the dawn of a new era in medical education for the region.
