Indian Railways has taken strict action against those traveling with such items. Teams are being formed to conduct raids, and action is being taken if caught. The Railways has appealed to passengers not to travel with such items.
According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Ministry of Railways, the Railways is continuously striving for improved train operations.
Passenger safety and security is the Railways’ top priority. The Railways is continuously monitoring to improve passenger safety.
These items are prohibited from being carried.
During Diwali and Chhath, passengers are often seen carrying flammable materials such as firecrackers, stoves, and lighters. These are prohibited during rail travel, and are dangerous and impact passenger safety. Even a small spark during travel can lead to serious damage to life and property. Consequently, Indian Railways is continuously conducting campaigns. Keeping this in mind, the Railways has placed warning stickers in all coaches, clearly stating the penalties for violating these rules.
Imprisonment and Fines
According to Sections 67, 164, and 165 of the Railways Act 1989, carrying flammable and explosive materials while traveling is a punishable offense. Passengers found guilty of such activities face a fine of up to 1,000 rupees, imprisonment of up to three years, or both. Indian Railways requests all passengers not to carry firecrackers and other inflammable substances while travelling by train.
