BALCO Medical Centre wins FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award

New Delhi: BALCO Medical Centre (BMC), Central India’s leading cancer care hospital, has been honoured with the prestigious FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award 2025 in the category of Patient Care and Service Delivery.
The award recognises BMC’s initiative “Care Beyond Treatment: Holistic Support System for Cancer Patients”, which addresses key barriers faced by low-income and rural patients in continuing cancer treatment such as financial, nutritional, accommodation, and transport challenges.
The award was presented by Rajiv Gauba, Member, NITI Aayog and Former Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, along with the FICCI Jury members, and was received by Dr. Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, Naya Raipur.
Through Care Beyond Treatment, BMC has created a comprehensive ecosystem that extends far beyond hospital walls. The initiative includes Sukh Sarai, a 95-bed subsidised accommodation for patients and caregivers offering meals, RO water, and transport. It also provides free transport services such as e-rickshaws and a hospital bus connecting key transit points, high-protein diet support for patients undergoing chemotherapy, and a BMC Charitable Fund for diagnostics and treatment gap funding not covered under government schemes. Additionally, BMC has established partnerships with corporates, NGOs, and charitable foundations to sustain funding and enhance service reach.
The initiative has led to measurable impact—reducing treatment dropouts, improving compliance, and ensuring holistic care with dignity for every patient.
In recognition of its commitment to quality and compassion, the FICCI jury noted that BMC’s model “successfully integrates medical excellence with social responsibility, ensuring equitable access to advanced cancer care for underprivileged communities.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director of Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, said: “World-class cancer care is meaningful only when it is accessible to everyone, especially the most vulnerable. The ‘Care Beyond Treatment’ initiative reflects our belief that no one should discontinue treatment because of poverty or lack of support. It is a privilege to be recognised by FICCI for this prestigious award. FICCI stands for excellence and benchmarking in our country, and it was an honour to present to the FICCI board the depth and scale of work we are doing at BMC. Platforms like these help us set new benchmarks, share knowledge, and collaborate with like-minded individuals who are committed to improving patient care.”
“We plan to expand ‘Care Beyond Treatment’ project with several new initiatives — upgrading Sukh Sarai into a 250-bed Dharamshala, enhancing transportation frequency, extending nutritional support to all in-patients, and launching a Mobile Blood Donation Van for patients with thalassemia and sickle cell disease, added Mrs Jyoti Agarwal, Chairperson, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation. She further added, “We also aim to double our cancer screening and strengthen Cervical Cancer Elimination drive across Chhattisgarh. Such recognition from FICCI inspires and fuels us to do even more for those who need our support the most.”
Established as a not-for-profit, state-of-the-art 170 bed cancer hospital in Naya Raipur, BALCO Medical Centre is transforming cancer care in central India by combining world-class treatment with empathy, accessibility, and community-driven support.
