Back in the ’90s, when Mahabharata was released, it became a hit and a favorite show. When the show started, it brought fortune to many actors. During the casting of the show, many people auditioned for Arjun’s role, and later it was finalized that Firoz Khan would play Arjun. However, he was never the first choice of B.R. Chopra. B.R. Chopra initially wanted to cast Pankaj Dheer, but after Pankaj gave a certain response, he lost the role instantly and was cast as Karna instead.
Not just that, Firoz Khan had to conceal his true identity for a long time. Despite his real name being Firoz, he had to live as Arjun in the eyes of the public.
Why Did Pankaj Dheer Not Become Arjun in Mahabharata
B.R. Chopra wanted Pankaj Dheer to play Arjun, but Pankaj refused to shave his mustache. Standing by his principles, he said no, bringing the matter to a halt. It is said that after this, B.R. Chopra let him go. Yet, destiny had other plans for him.
A few months later, Pankaj was once again approached by the makers. This time, he was offered the role of Karna. He accepted. In fact, Pankaj Dheer didn’t need to shave his moustache to play Karna. This is why, even though he didn’t play Arjun, he was able to become a part of the show and win hearts.
