Soon New Delhi Railway Station to have different look, new entry and exit points | Details
Special preparations have been made to handle the crowds at New Delhi station during the festival season. The entire ticket counter has been relocated to a new permanent holding area with a capacity of over 7,000. Separate holding areas have been created for general tickets and those with reservations, ensuring no inconvenience to passengers.
Vehicles can enter in two ways
Vehicles can enter the station premises from the Minto Bridge side, towards Ajmeri Gate. There are two entry points for vehicles. You can park your vehicle in the premium parking lot on the left. You’ll need to pay ₹150 for the first two hours, and ₹100 per hour after that. However, all vehicles entering the station have 8 minutes of free parking.
Signage entry gate will be built near the station
There’s no charge for leaving the station premises within eight minutes. A fee of ₹50 is applicable for those between eight and 15 minutes. There’s also a third option: From the Minto Road side, vehicles can go directly to the general parking lot from the far right of the entry gate. The railway administration says this will be clearly displayed. “We will install large signage at the entry gate to ensure passengers don’t face any difficulties,” the statement said.
How to reach the holding area
A new holding area has been created near Gate No. 1 of the metro station on the station premises. Passengers arriving with vehicles can go up to the footover bridge, from there they will have to walk to the holding area. From here, vehicles will take a right and exit. Northern Railway CPRO Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said that signage is being installed at various places so that everyone can know where the holding area is. Pedestrians can access the holding area from either side.
All ticket counters have been relocated to the holding area. All types of tickets, especially general tickets, are now issued there. In the coming days, the ticket counters are planned to operate from here to keep the crowds within the station premises under control.
Separate holding area for those with reservations
Until last year, a holding area was created in front of the ticket counter area at Ajmeri Gate, where passengers with reservations and general tickets were held together. However, this time, a permanent holding area has been created for passengers with general tickets. The area around the general ticket counter is being converted into a holding area for passengers with reserved tickets.
There is a holding area in three zones
The holding area is divided into three zones. First is the ticketing zone. After this, there is facility to buy tickets in the second zone. There are 25 ticket counters, 22 automatic ticket vending machines, tickets can be bought through mobile app. Apart from this, the newest facility is Mobile UTS, which will issue tickets to people on the move. After buying the tickets, the passengers will be kept in the post ticketing zone. Here, after security check, the passengers will be taken to platform number 16.
