Police seize vehicles used for illegal extraction

SRINAGAR, Oct 15: Police in Shopian today seized several vehicles used in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
The seized vehicles include one dumper, one tipper, and five tractors, which, according to police, were being used for unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from the Rambiara Nallah in the Shopian, Keegam and Heerpora areas.
“Four tractors were seized by Police Station Shopian for operating without valid royalty documents,” police said.
In this connection, FIR No. 218/2025 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and investigation has been initiated.
Similarly, police said, one dumper bearing registration number JK19-7825 was seized by Police Post Keegam for operating without valid royalty documents.
Accordingly, FIR No. 217/2025 has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and further investigation is underway.
In another action, as per police, one tipper and one tractor were seized by Police Station Heerpora for operating without valid royalty documents.
FIR No. 48/2025 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Heerpora, and investigation has been taken up.
Shopian Police said it remains committed to protecting the district’s natural resources and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining.
“Citizens are urged to support this initiative by reporting such activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and stringent action will be taken against all violators in accordance with the law,” police said.
