Gladiators, Captain’s 18 book knock-out spots at Chandigarh Golf League
On the penultimate day of the Chandigarh Golf League’s round-robin rounds, Soaring Eagles and Chandigarh Gladiators played out a tie. Captain’s 18, meanwhile, won 4-3 over Golf Ninjas and Punjab Aces pipped Seven Iron 4-3 .
In the first match, Gladiators made it to the Super 12 (knockout) stage. Rahul Sehgal posted a 2-1 singles win, followed by a 4-3 wins by the pairs of Col RPS Brar and JS Mahi, and, Ashwinder Singh and Col VP Singh pairs. This was after KPS Bhatti and Amandeep Singh Brar of the Eagles played out a tied game.
The Eagles, who led five games at one point, could only close out three four ball games as Dilmick Lamba and Salil Bindra logged a 2-1 win. Puneet Sood and Ankur Ahuja also came home with a 4- win followed by Col Rupendra Singh and BS Brar’s 2-1 result in the anchor game.
Two-time champions Captain’s 18 closed out their round-robin campaign with a narrow win to march into the next stage. HS Kang back playing singles won his game 3-1 after Col SDS Batth put up a 5-4 win for the Ninjas. Couple of 3-2 wins in the four ball games got the Captain’s 18 closer before Bhupinder Singh Mundh and RS Mann’s 4-3 result sealed it for their team.
Both the Ninjas four ball wins came on the final hole with Zorawar Singh and Angadbir Khehra winning 1-Up and the pair of Tarun Ghai and SS Prasad completing a comeback 2-Up win.
Aces left it late against the spirited Seven Iron as skipper Dilsher Grewal gave the latter a lead with a 5-4 win. Mivaan Singh got his usual 4-3 result for the Aces before the Rohit Mittala and Sahil Mahajan duo won 2-Up. Aces captain TS Grewal produced another long game and won 1-Up with partner Viraj Singh on the final hole after Varun Rao and Akshay Verma wrapped up an easy 5-3 win. Balpreet Ghuman and Gursharan Grewal romped home a 5-4 result. Muneet Jakhar and Ashray Gakhar got the final point, as both teams moved into the next stage.

battle it out for final spot
Group A saw table toppers Hunting Hawks, Sultans of Swing, Moksha Royals and Gladiators qualify, while Group B witness Punjab Aces, Captain’s 18 and Seven Iron locked in for the knockouts.
The winner of tomorrow’s game between Swinging Samurai and Empire will take up the last place on offer. From Group C, the Pirates of the Greens have progressed, with The Mulligans, Partee Panthers and Fairway Comets yet to play their final league games.
