Yogi announces Diwali bonanza, says 1.86 crore UP women to receive free LPG cylinders

Uttar Pradesh: The government of Uttar Pradesh stated that it will give two free LPG cylinders to women of the state on Wednesday at Lok Bhavan. The statement was given on Tuesday, and it’s a part of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which was launched in May 2016. This will lead to 1.86 crore women getting the aid of LPG cylinders before Diwali. The plan of the Yojana will take place in two phases. The first phase will be carried out between October and December this year. On the other hand, the second phase will be conducted between January and March 2026.

What’s the initiative about?

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2016. The objective of the mission is to promote social welfare among underprivileged women by giving them the aid of needful LPG cylinders. This will help in substituting primitive fuels such as wood, coal, and cow dung for better health. Uttar Pradesh is actively working for the execution of the mission to provide the required support to the needy families.

What are the two phases?

The first phase of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will give the advantage to 1.23 crore Aadhaar-authenticated beneficiaries. The execution will take place with the help of Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum, and Indian Oil. The government stated that an advance of Rs. 346.34 crore has been given for the plan.

The Aadhaar-verified beneficiaries will buy cylinders weighing 14.2 kg at the existing price, and the subsidy grant will be credited to their linked bank accounts. On the other hand, the individuals who will have cylinders weighing 5 kg, or only one connection, shall also be eligible to take the benefit.

What’s happening at the State and District level?

The committees at the district and state levels have to keep a check on the distribution plan. In addition, a complaint-handling system is set up to ensure the addressal of grievances. The responsibility of the Weights and Measures Department is to ensure timely checks and inspections, making sure gas cylinders weigh 14.2 kg.

As per the statement, this will give economic aid when petroleum prices are increasing, while encouraging the utilization of clean fuels in rural regions, promoting a healthy environment, which will brighten Diwali for millions of women and the underprivileged families.
