Officials say that the identities of those complaining on these numbers will be kept strictly confidential, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty. The government’s aim is to ensure that no citizen faces health risks while enjoying the festivals. In the Diwali special campaign, teams from various departments conducted 4,621 inspections, 2,085 raids, and tested 2,853 samples across Uttar Pradesh. A large quantity of adulterated and unhealthy food items was seized. 2,993 quintals of food items were seized, valued at approximately ₹3.88 crore. Of these, 1,155 quintals of food items, deemed unfit for human consumption, were destroyed on the spot, amounting to approximately ₹1.75 crore. Furthermore, three FIRs have been registered in Unnao, Mathura, and Lucknow districts.

Food Safety and Drug Administration Secretary Dr. Roshan Jacob stated that the government’s priority is public safety. According to him, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued clear instructions to take strict action against adulterators during the festive season. Any health compromise will not be tolerated anywhere in the state. He added that department teams are active on the ground, seizing and destroying perishable goods on the spot to ensure consumer safety. This campaign is more comprehensive and effective than ever before, encompassing not only major cities but also small towns and rural areas.
Major crackdown in various districts
As part of the campaign, food safety teams launched a massive crackdown against adulterators in several districts across the state.
- Unnao: 215 kg of khoya seized and destroyed, samples taken and an FIR filed.
- Mathura: 400 kg of adulterated paneer destroyed.
- Lucknow: 802 kg of khoya destroyed.
- Jhansi: 1200 kg of khoya recovered.
- Hathras: 790 kg of adulterated pickles seized, 3000 kg of spoiled pickles destroyed.
- Bulandshahr: 3000 kg of adulterated rasgullas and gulab jamuns seized.
- Mirzapur: 1478 kg of adulterated khoya seized.
- Saharanpur: 1100 kg of khoya destroyed.
- Hapur: 6000 liters of refined soybean oil seized.
Major seizures were also made in Kanpur, Meerut, Gorakhpur, and Etah.
In Kanpur Dehat, 500 liters of milk, 400 kg of khoya, 2200 kg of burfi, 250 kg of peda, and 358 kg of sweet cakes were destroyed. In Gorakhpur, 1400 kg of paneer and khoya, along with 1000 liters of spoiled mustard oil, were seized. In Meerut, 71 liters of palm oil, 20 kg of skimmed milk powder, 2500 kg of khoya and 180 kg of paneer were seized. In Etah, 340 liters of mustard oil and 900 kg of ghee were destroyed. In addition, adulterated goods worth lakhs of rupees were seized and destroyed in districts like Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, and Muzaffarnagar.
Raids on toll plazas and highways also occurred.
The campaign wasn’t limited to cities. Adulterators were also caught on highways and toll plazas. 750 kg of paneer was seized at the Sahibabad toll plaza. 1,500 kg of paneer was seized at the Hapur toll plaza at Chijarsi, and 4,040 kg of khoya was seized on NH-34, GT Road, Kanpur. 910 cartons of adulterated sweets were confiscated at the Barabanki toll plaza. 2,450 kg of khoya was destroyed on the Kanpur Panki Road.
