Foreign Ministry Denies Donald Trump’s Claim on India Halting Russian Oil Imports

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that US President Donald Trump’s recent claim—that India has stopped buying oil from Russia—is incorrect. The ministry stated that India continues to import crude oil from Russia, which currently accounts for nearly one-third of the country’s total oil imports. This statement directly contradicts Trump’s assertion and reaffirms India’s independent energy policy. Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov also supported this, saying that India remains a major buyer of Russian crude and that Moscow welcomes New Delhi’s role in the global energy market. Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he fears Donald Trump and acts under pressure. However, the Foreign Ministry’s clarification emphasized that India’s decisions on oil procurement are driven purely by national interests and market diversification. While India’s imports from the US have increased in recent years, officials reiterated that it does not imply a halt in Russian oil purchases. The statement reflects India’s balanced diplomatic stance amid global tensions between Russia and Western nations.
