'Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra' worldwide box office collection update: Mollywood's all-time no.1 grosser completes 50 days
Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has added one more fabled milestone to its long list of records. The Kalyani Priyadarshan-starrer completes 50 days at the box office today (October 16) in more than 200 screens - a phenomenal achievement indeed.
In today's era of wide-release films, even the biggest of box office hits usually end their run after 25-30 days on an average. Seldom do films breach the 50-day mark and when they do so, it is even rarer to hold as many screens as Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has.
The Dominic Arun-directorial broke a plethora of box office records, including the all-time top grosser in Kerala, India and worldwide. Earlier this week, it also became the first Malayalam film to go past Rs 300 crore worldwide gross.
The 50-day gross in Kerala will be around the Rs 121.20 crore mark with the film still collecting steadily at lower levels. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has held its own despite the wave from Kantara: Chapter 1 which released two weeks ago. With all the major records buried by the film, Dulquer Salmaan's production house Wayfarer Films announced the OTT deal with Jio Hotstar earlier this week.
The OTT premiere has not been officially announced but it is expected to be aired in the final weekend of October. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra had a fine seventh weekend, grossing close to Rs 94 lakh - which was comfortably more than the two new releases Avihitham and Feminichi Fathima.
Buoyed by the stupendous success of the film, Wayfarer Films announced the sequel Lokah Chapter 2: Michael in the last week of September. That film will feature Tovino Thomas, who had a cameo in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, as the main protagonist with Dulquer Salmaan expected to play a cameo as well.
