SKIMS to roll out SOPs for trauma care: Director

Srinagar, Oct 17: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, is in the process of formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline trauma care and address the growing trauma burden effectively, the institute’s Director said today.
The announcement came during a one-day conference organized by the Department of Neurosurgery in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine to mark World Trauma Day under the theme “Every Second Counts.”
The event aimed to raise awareness about the increasing global trauma burden, with special focus on the rising incidence of trauma in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prof. Ganie highlighted that the recent upgradation and expansion of emergency services at SKIMS was a significant step toward strengthening emergency and trauma care.
He further stated that despite limited infrastructure and manpower, judicious utilization of available resources is key to efficient trauma management.
“SKIMS is also in the process of formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline trauma care and address the growing trauma burden effectively,” he said.
The Founder Director of SKIMS, Dr. A.K. Nagpal, who was the chief guest on the occasion, expressed pride in the recognition SKIMS continues to receive nationally and internationally.
Referring to trauma management, he emphasized the importance of developing trauma care facilities at peripheral levels and establishing well-equipped Trauma Care Centres in tertiary care hospitals.
Director SKIMS, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, emphasized that SKIMS has a much broader role beyond patient care, encompassing teaching, training, and research.
He urged faculty members to continually upgrade their knowledge and skills in line with the institute’s objectives.
Dean of Medical Faculty SKIMS, Prof. G.M. Gulzar, lauded the pivotal role SKIMS continues to play in emergency medical services.
Organising Chairman, Prof. Nayil Khursheed Malik, welcomed the dignitaries.
The conference featured multiple scientific sessions where experts deliberated on the current trauma landscape, management strategies, and the critical role SKIMS plays in providing trauma-related healthcare services in the region.
Incharge, Emergency Medicine, Dr. Umar Hafiz, concluded the inaugural ceremony with a vote of thanks.
