The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has decided to withdraw from the upcoming T20 tri-series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin in November, following the loss of lives of its cricketers in a Pakistani airstrike.
New Delhi: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has decided to withdraw from the upcoming T20 tri-series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This decision was taken following the deaths of three Afghan domestic cricketers in airstrikes allegedly carried out by Pakistan’s military regime in Paktika province. Afghanistan was scheduled to play a tri-series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan between November 5 and 29 in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
However, following the attack, Afghanistan withdrew from the series. Pakistan carried out this attack treacherously, as a ceasefire had already been established. The Afghanistan Cricket Board itself claimed in a post that Pakistan cowardly took the lives of these innocent cricketers.
Afghanistan Cricket Board Releases Post
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has released a post on social media, confirming the deaths of three Afghan cricketers in a Pakistani airstrike. The board also described the attack as a cowardly attack. Sharing the post, they wrote, “The Afghanistan Cricket Board expresses its deepest sorrow and grief over the tragic martyrdom of the brave cricketers who were killed this evening in the Urgun district of Paktika province in a cowardly attack carried out by the Pakistani government.”
The three Afghan cricketers who died in the airstrike were named Sibghatullah, Haroon, and Kabir Agha. In the post, the Afghanistan Cricket Board further wrote, “In this heartbreaking incident, three players from Urgun district and five other fellow countrymen were killed. Seven others were injured. These players had previously traveled to Sharana, the capital of Paktika province, to play a friendly cricket match. They were targeted during a gathering while returning from Urgun.”
