Divya Tanwar, Hailing from a small village of Nimbi in Mahendragarh, Haryana, has demonstrated that through hard work and sheer will, any battle can be won. Her journey serves as an inspiration for young people who dream of achieving something despite challenges. Divya has not only fought against circumstances to pursue her education, but also twice cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
Who is the young achiever who cracked UPSC at such a young age?
Divya Tanwar lost her father in 2011. She faced many struggles and challenges, but she never gave up hope. Divya’s mother, Babita Tanwar, used to work as a labourer in the fields to support Divya and her three siblings.
What challenges did she face in her early life?
Divya’s mother turned tragedy into resilience. After losing her husband and being left alone to raise four children, Babita Tanwar refused to succumb to circumstances. She worked as a farm labourer in the sun during the day and worked as a tailor in the evening, sewing clothing that would support her children’s education. Behind her exhausted eyes was a steely determination that her daughter could have all the things life had once tried to steal.
How did her mother support her education after her father’s death?
Divya’s mother transformed hardship into determination. After losing her husband and being left alone to care for four children, Babita Tanwar refused to be defeated by circumstances. She worked as a farm laborer during the day and as a tailor at night, sewing clothes to fund her children’s education.
Divya attended government schools and subsequently a Navodaya Vidyalaya. She earned a degree in science. While studying, she also taught children in order to support herself. It was at this point that she decided to attempt one of the toughest exams in the country – the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
What rank did she secure in her UPSC attempts?
Divya was fully aware of her mother’s sacrifices. It was the sacrifices and efforts of her mother that made Divya aspire to reach for the stars. Unlike many UPSC aspirants who depend on coaching that costs thousands, she simply relied on free online study material and mock tests. Divya had sacrificed and worked countless hours for UPSC preparation; she studied for 10 hours a day.
Divya successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination twice at a very young age, the first attempt being in 2021 when she was only 21. In her first attempt, she secured 438th rank and became an IPS officer.
Divya got an overall mark of 930. In her written exam, she got 751 marks and 179 marks in the personality test in the UPSC Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2021. She belonged to the EWS category.
