IND vs AUS 1st ODI: Australia draw first blood, Mitchell Marsh, bowlers set up dominant win over India
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh and bowlers set up a dominant win over India by 7 wickets at Perth. The Aussies looked in great touch against Shubman Gill’s side. Fans were excited to see the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the ODIs. But the star Indian batters couldn’t make a big score in the match.
India struggled with the bat after being put in to bat first, managing only 136 for 9 in their 26 overs, as the match was shortened due to multiple rain delays. This set Australia a DLS-adjusted target of 131, which they comfortably chased down in 21.1 overs. Travis Head was dismissed early by Arshdeep Singh, hitting the ball straight to Harshit Rana at deep third man. Matthew Short also got out without making much of an impact.
However, captain and hometown player Mitchell Marsh (46* off 52 balls) powered Australia forward with a vital 55-run stand alongside Josh Philippe (37 off 29 balls). India’s fast bowlers, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Harshit Rana, couldn’t match the discipline shown by the Australian bowlers and gave away too many easy runs.
Marsh took full advantage, hitting a six off each of the three pacers. His standout shot was a stylish inside-out loft over the covers off Siraj. Philippe supported Marsh well with an energetic innings, and even though he got out, it didn’t slow Australia down. They comfortably sealed the win and went 1-0 up in the three-match series.
