Pooja Bedi reveals Parveen Babi’s last days: Survived on eggs, avoided food and makeup fearing FBI
Parveen Babi, often remembered for her charm and talent, lived her later years away from the limelight, battling loneliness and mental health challenges. Years after her untimely death, actor Pooja Bedi shared a deeply personal memory, offering a glimpse into the difficult period the actress endured.
In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Pooja, whose father Kabir Bedi once had a relationship with Parveen Babi, described visiting the actress at her home after she had returned to India. “I remember that many years later, she came back to India. Everyone was saying something was wrong with her. I went to her house. She opened the door and looked very different. She had gained a lot of weight and her hair was dishevelled,” Pooja recalled.
Despite the changes, Parveen’s spirit momentarily shone through. “She was very happy to see me and said, ‘Pooja! Hi! Come in.’ Then she hugged me tightly and we sat down to talk. Everything seemed completely normal at that moment,” Pooja said.
What made the meeting turn unsettling?
The warm reunion soon took an unusual turn. Pooja recalled, “Suddenly, she said, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t offer you food because I only eat eggs.’ I asked her why she only ate eggs, and she said, ‘This is the only thing they cannot tamper with.’”
Curious, Pooja asked who “they” were. The late actress reportedly confided, “Secret Service, or FBI.” This statement reflected the deep paranoia that had begun to take over Parveen’s life, a struggle few outside her close circle witnessed.
