Over 300 Naxalites surrender under Operation Kagar, says union Minister G Kishan Reddy
HYDERABAD, Oct 19: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy welcomed the surrender of hundreds of Naxalites who have chosen to abandon violence and rejoin mainstream life under the government’s Operation Kagar, aimed at completely eradicating Naxalism in India by March 31, 2026.
In a statement here on Sunday, Kishan Reddy noted that over the past three days alone, more than 300 Naxalites, most of them Telugu, have surrendered, calling it a significant development.
“While many districts have remained underdeveloped due to Naxalism for decades, it is heartening that, as the country celebrates Diwali, these regions are moving from darkness to light,” he said.
Highlighting the progress of the initiative, the Minister said the number of Naxal-affected districts has declined from 125 a decade ago to just 11 today, expressing hope that these remaining districts will soon also become Naxal-free.
“Ambedkar’s Constitution allows people to freely express their opinions through non-violence. Nothing can be achieved in a democracy through bloodshed and violence, and this message has been reinforced today,” Kishan Reddy added.
He further observed that Naxalism had previously hindered the construction of roads, schools, and hospitals in affected areas, causing hardships to residents.
“The Modi government is committed to developing infrastructure, implementing welfare programs, and creating better employment opportunities for youth in districts that have become Naxal-free,” he said.
