Four-day Deepawali Utsav begins with religious fervor at Apsra Road

JAMMU, Oct 19: The four-day Deepawali Utsav 2025 commenced at the Apsara Road market in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, amid religious and cultural fervour.
Organized by the Apsara Road Traders Association in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism Jammu and District Administration Jammu, the festival aims to promote local culture, art, and festive spirit while boosting trade and tourism in the region.
The event was inaugurated by MLA Vikram Randhawa in the presence of Director Tourism Jammu Vikas Gupta, Joint Director Tourism Sunaina Sharma, SP Jammu South Ajay Sharma and office bearers of the Traders Federation. The entire market has been beautifully decorated with traditional lights, colourful lanterns, diyas, and rangolis, creating a festive ambience for visitors and shoppers.
The Apsra Road Traders Association, led by its president Anil Kohli, actively participated in the Deepawali Utsav 2025. The Association’s general secretary Rajan Gupta, convenor Amit Jandyal and members including Vishal Sachdeva, Vinod Sachdeva, Munish Bhatia, Sidharth Bhatia, Indu Bhushan, and cashier Manoj Magotra were present on the occasion. Other prominent members such as Rajan Verma and Rakesh Mahajan also attended the festive event, contributing to the spirit of celebration and community engagement.
As part of the celebrations, various cultural performances, art and craft stalls and traditional food kiosks have been set up along the Apsara Road stretch. Local artists are showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir through folk dances, music, and live performances. Special stalls featuring handicrafts, handlooms, and regional delicacies have also been arranged to promote local artisans and entrepreneurs.
The Deepawali Utsav 2025, which will continue till October 21, aims to attract both locals and tourists. The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, has planned several engaging events over the four days, including performances by local cultural groups, lighting displays, and interactive workshops.
Officials from the Tourism Department said that the event is part of an initiative to promote festival-based tourism and highlight Jammu’s vibrant market culture. They also appealed to residents to participate enthusiastically and support the local traders, ensuring a safe, joyful, and eco-friendly Deepawali celebration.
