However, the US president reiterated his earlier claim that Prime Minister Modi had assured him that India would not buy oil from Russia, adding that he had spoken to PM Modi over the phone regarding this matter.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), on the other hand, clarified that there has been no such conversation between PM Modi and President Trump.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, clarified that there had been no phone conversation between PM Modi and President Trump. Meanwhile, when President Trump was asked about India’s denial of his previous claim, he said that if India continues to buy oil from Russia, it will keep paying heavy tariffs.
