'Kaantha' release: Dulquer Salmaan's retro epic to hit theatres on THIS date

Dulquer Salmaan's Kaantha, which was supposed to release first on Sept. 12, has a new release date. The actor shared the official update on Monday, on the occasion of Diwali. The Tamil period drama epic will hit theatres on November 14.
The earlier decision, Dulquer said, was made to sustain the successful theatrical run of Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra as both films are produced and distributed by the actor's Wayfarer Films. The Kalyani Priyadarshan film, which was bankrolled by Dulquer's Wayfarer Films, has now become Malayalam cinema's highest grosser.
Dulquer, who plays the main lead in Kaantha, had earlier released a joint statement with director Selvamani Selvaraj and co-producer Rana Daggubati on the release push: "We've been truly moved by the love and support you've shown since the release of our teaser. With the resounding success of Lokah, we want Chandra's rampage in the box office to keep soaring. We are putting together something equally special," said the statement.
The recently released teaser of Kaantha proved that Dulquer is a natural fit for period epics, Dulquer — in the film written and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj — plays... well, an actor who seems to have a strained relationship with a filmmaker played by Samuthirakani. As expected from a cinematographer of his calibre, the teaser promises stunning frames, courtesy of Dani Sanchez Lopez, who also shot Dulquer's Mahanati and Daggubati's Virata Parvam.
On his character in the film, Dulquer had earlier said: "I got to play a timeless role in a timeless story. I couldn’t ask for a bigger gift to celebrate my 13 years in the industry."
Dulquer's co-stars in Kaantha include Rana Daggubati, Bhagyashri Borse, and Samuthirakani, among others.
It is bankrolled by Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media and Dulquer's Wayfarer Films in association with Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese.
Tha. Ramalingam, the art director of Sarpatta Parambarai, Karnan and Captain Miller, is part of the technical team. Jhanu Chanthar is the composer and Lewellyn Anthony Gonsalves is in charge of the editing.
Dulquer is coming off the massive pan-Indian success of his Telugu outing Lucky Baskhar, directed by Venky Atluri. Meenakshi Chaudhary, Tinnu Anand, P. Sai Kumar, Ramki, Raghu Babu, Sarvadaman D. Banerjee, Sachin Khedekar and Y. Kasi Viswanath.
He also played a crucial cameo in the third act of Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra, as a character who is expected to show up in the future entries of the planned superhero franchise. JioHotstar will launch Lokah on streaming soon.
