Vance says issue delivering Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine ‘unsolved’

WASHINGTON, Oct 20: US Vice President JD Vance, commenting on the likelihood of Washington agreeing to deliver its Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, remarked that this was dependant solely on President Donald Trump’s approach to the matter, and is currently driven entirely on protecting the US’s own national security interests.
“The President of the United States is trying to ensure that America’s security is taken care of first, and obviously that means we need to have the critical weapon systems for our own military, for our own troops. That’s what the President is focused on,” Vance told reporters, according to Russian media reports.
The Vice President noted that while Washington could consider selling additional weapons to European allies if deemed beneficial, the issue of transferring Tomahawks to Kyiv, at least for now “remains unresolved.”
Vance stressed that the final decision lies with President Trump, adding that “no final determination has been made yet.”
He also expressed optimism in the administration’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating that he was “fairly confident” over the US prospects in helping the two warring parties reach a mutually acceptable settlement, though did not comment when and how it is going to happen.
“The President has been working on this – the entire team has been working on it – for eight months. We’re going to keep walking down the pathway of peace. Whether it takes us a few more months, a few more weeks, or, God forbid, longer than that, we’re going to keep working at it,” he told the US media.
“How confident am I that this is going to get wrapped up? I feel optimistic. I would say that, but the timeline is anybody’s guess,” he remarked. (UNI)
