'Dude' worldwide box office collection day 4: Trends suggest a solid Monday

Pradeep Ranganathan's latest release Dude has endured a smashing opening weekend worldwide. The comedy entertainer directed by Keerthiswaran has seen an India gross of Rs 31 crore in the three-day weekend with the collections seeing an increase across Day 2 and Day 3, especially in Tamil Nadu and Telugu states.

Dude opened to mixed reviews on October 17 with the film's theme getting polarised reactions from the public. However, Pradeep's comic timing and screen presence has kept the cash registers ringing in the opening weekend, also fueled by the Diwali season. In overseas territories also, the film has taken a solid start with approximately Rs 20 crore gross reported.

With Diwali falling on Monday (October 20) in South India and Tamil Nadu giving an extra holiday on Tuesday (October 21), Dude is set for an outstanding extended five-day weekend, particularly in India. On its fourth day, Dude has taken a slightly lower opening in the morning shows when compared to Sunday but the afternoon shows have shown higher occupancies than Day 3.

Diwali festivities mean that there won't be a massive jump in collections on Day 4 but trends suggest another double-digit day for Dude in India, thereby taking its four-day numbers to Rs 40-41 crore. The advance booking for Monday in Tamil Nadu was a fraction lesser than Sunday but there should be enough walk-ins with the festival season to make it another strong day for the film.

The trends are similar in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana where the film has taken a strong start despite polarised opinion from the public. The Diwali factor has allowed the film to hold on, given that it doesn't have any big opposition in its genre during this festival season. Bison Kaalamadan and Diesel are faring decently but not doing enough to challenge Dude at the moment.
