Bollywood box office collection Diwali throwback: When Shah Rukh Khan's 'Don' destroyed the Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar film 'Jaan-E-Mann'

Box office clashes between major stars are always unforgettable. On 20th October 2006, Bollywood witnessed one of its major clashes with Shah Rukh Khan's Don clashing against Jaan-E-Mann starring Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. It was almost like a WWE handicap match with two stars competing against one and Shah Rukh won the clash with utter dominance.
Don, remake of Amitabh Bachchan's 1978 blockbuster of the same name, was interestingly co-written by Salman Khan's father Salim Khan alongside Javed Akthar a.k.a Salim-Javed in their prime. The remake was the third directorial venture of Farhan Akthar, Javed's son, and had music by Shanker-Ehsaan-Loy.
Meanwhile, Jaan-E-Mann was directed by Shirish Kunder, husband of noted choreographer Farah Khan. The film's music was largely by Anu Malik while Kunder also reportedly had a contribution in it. The film was a romantic musical with Preity Zinta playing the female protagonist opposite Salman and Akshay.
There was a lot of hype prior to release about the clash but it ended as a one-sided contest with the Shah Rukh-starrer winning the battle right from the opening day till the final collections, all by a massive margin.
