Special Muhurat trading today: What you need to know
From the official NSE circular on Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025 | NSE
Indian stock exchanges, the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), announced a special Muhurat trading session. So, when is it and what do you need to know about it?
First off, the NSE and BSE announced the 2025 Diwali holiday on October 21, a day after the nation celebrated it. On the same day, the Indian bourses will also hold a special Muhurat trading session on Tuesday from 1.45 pm to 2.45 pm for Laxmi Pujan.
However, regular market trading and forex markets will remain closed on Tuesday (October 21) and Wednesday (October 22) for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Diwali Balipratipada, respectively.
Muhurat Trading session timings
As THE WEEK informed earlier, Indian stock markets will depart from the tradition of evening Muhurat Trading in 2025.
Instead, this year's auspicious Muhurat Trading session will take place during the afternoon hours on Tuesday, October 21, from 1.45 pm to 2.45 pm.
The Muhurat Trading session marks the beginning of Samvat 2082, the Hindu calendar year that commences on Diwali.
This one-hour window lets investors and traders participate in ceremonial trading, which is considered highly auspicious for initiating new financial ventures and attracting prosperity throughout the year.
The special Muhurat session will include a pre-market phase from 1.30 pm to 1.45 pm, with block deal sessions beginning at 1.15 pm.
However, stocks purchased yesterday, i.e., Monday, October 20, cannot be sold during the Muhurat Trading hours on Tuesday due to settlement restrictions.
