Tamil Nadu weather: State brace for heavy showers this week as IMD warns of low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal

Tamil Nadu is likely to witness heavy showers as a low pressure area was formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am on Tuesday, the Indian Meterological Department has warned.
The phenomenon caused due to the atmospheric circulation that prevailed over the southeast and adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal on Monday will result in heavy showers. The low pressure area is likely to move west-northwestwards in the next 36 hours and strengthen into a deep depression over the south and west-central Bay of Bengal, the alert by IMD read.
Due to this, the Chennai Meteorological Department has stated that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in various districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Seven district
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Cuddalore districts and in Puducherry and Karaikal areas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Kumarakom, Nellai, Thoothukudi, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Theni and Dindigul.
North west monsoon intensified
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the northeast monsoon has become more intense than expected due to a twin weather system forming in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. As a result, a warning of heavy rain has been issued for various districts of Tamil Nadu.
Heavy to moderate rainfall is likely in Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry and Karaikal areas. eavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts.
