He had told his wife Manju to avoid any commotion after his death and to inform everyone only after the funeral. This is why his last rites were performed in the presence of only family.

Worked in More Than 350 Films

Asrani was one of the longest-serving comedians in Indian cinema. In a career spanning over five decades, he appeared in over 350 films. He studied acting at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and honed his skills. He then entered the Hindi film industry in the mid-1960s.

Dominated the 70s and 80s

Although he began with serious and supporting roles, Asrani’s comedic talent soon emerged. He became a prominent figure in Hindi cinema in the 1970s and 1980s, often playing the lovable fool, the troubled clerk, or the witty assistant. His comic timing and facial expressions made him a favorite of film directors. He played memorable roles in films like Sholay and Chupke Chupke. His stellar performance in Sholay was a Hitler-impersonating jailer.

Worked in Different Languages

Asrani worked in several languages, including Gujarati and Rajasthani. He also directed a few Hindi and Gujarati films. He played excellent comedy roles alongside actors like Mehmood, Rajesh Khanna, and later Govinda.
