Former DGP’s son Aqil Akhtar alleged father had illicit relation with wife, then backtracked before death

A case has been filed against former Minister of Punjab Razia Sultana, her husband Mohammed Mustafa, a former DGP of police, along with their daughter and daughter-in-law, for the death of the couple's 35-year-old son, Aqil Akhtar. Akhtar, a Punjab and Haryana High Court lawyer, was found unconscious in his room in Panchkula on October 16 and was declared dead after he was taken to a civil hospital.

In a new video that emerged after his death, Aqil says that his family had taken good care of him. This is a turn from his original stance in a previous video, reportedly recorded on 27 August, where he had alleged that his father and his wife were having an affair. He also said that his family was plotting to murder him and frame him for false cases.

He said, "Their plan is to have me falsely imprisoned or to have me killed," Aqil said that he suspects that his father knew his wife before his wedding. "The first day, she didn't let me touch her. She did not marry me; she married my father."

He also said that he didn't know if his daughter was actually his.

In the new video, he says that his sister Nishat Akhtar takes great care of him. He also says that the allegations he made against his family were due to his mental illness.  "I was suffering from schizophrenia. Thanks to Allah, my family members are the way they are. I was unwell, so I did not understand anything. I am better now. I want to say sorry. Thank god I am blessed with such a family. Let's see what happens." In that video, his face is not visible. However, when he reappears on screen, he says, "Will they get me killed? They are all scoundrels."

The Panchkula police have launched an investigation into his death after a man named Shamshuddin, a resident of Malerkotla, Punjab, filed an FIR saying that Aqil died under “suspicious circumstances.” He had also said that there was a resentment brewing between the deceased and the family. He cited a video that Aqil posted on social media where he made the allegations against his family and said that the man had expressed fear for his family.

Aqil’s death was reported to the police by his family, and after the post-mortem, no foul play was suspected. The family had claimed that he died from a drug overdose. Police said that preliminary findings suggest he may have had health complications after he consumed medication. His body was later handed over to his family for cremation.

In the first video, Aqil said that the he had left a suicide note in his diary.

Aqil's mother, Razia Sultana, had served as cabinet minister in Congress government in Punjab from 2017-2022.
